Honolulu firefighters mop up after a garage fire overnight in Waipio.
Honolulu police are investigating an indoor marijuana growing operation discovered at the scene of a fire in Waipio overnight.
Police seized several pounds of potted marijuana plants as well as dirt, air filters, lights and other materials used to cultivate plants, said Lt. Stacey Kapeliela.
No one has been arrested. Kapeliela said it will take several days to inventory all the materials confiscated and sort through the evidence.
The fire broke out at 12:45 a.m. at a home at 94-1157 Polinahe Place in Waipio, said Capt. Carlton Yamada, the Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.
Yamada said the fire started in an electrical meter box attached to the outside of the garage and spread into the garage.
Firefighters contained and controlled the fire within minutes, Yamada said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no damage estimate yet.
Yamada said no one was at home at the time of the fire because the home was apparently under renovation.
