Calling all talented young reporters, ages 10 to 14. The Scholastic News Kids Press Corps is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year.
Scholastic is seeking a team of about 50 reporters to cover local and national news for its website, as well as for Scholastic News magazine and Junior Scholastic magazine.
The program is designed to encourage aspiring young journalists to refine their research, interview and writing skills at an early age.
For the past 10 years, Scholastic News Kid Reporters have covered current events, breaking local and national news, entertainment, sports, business, politics, the economy, environmental issues, education and books.
They have interviewed key newsmakers, ranging from singer Taylor Swift to Israeli President Shimon Peres, and produced special reports on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and Japanese earthquake. In 2012 the kid reporters will cover the debates, primaries and campaign stops of the presidential candidates.
Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 11. Visit www.scholastic.com/kidspress for more information.
