Victim of beating at bus stop identified
A 64-year-old Honolulu man who died Thursday after being assaulted at a Liliha bus stop last week was identified as John Abiley Jr. of Honolulu.
The city Department of the Medical Examiner said Abiley’s death was a homicide and that he died of blunt force injuries to his head. Police said Abiley was sitting at a bus stop on School Street at 6:40 p.m. Aug. 5 when another man approached him and punched and kicked his face and body several times.
Witnesses scared off the suspect, and he fled on foot, police said. It is unclear whether the victim and the assailant knew each other.
Abiley was taken to a hospital where he died Thursday at 2:08 p.m.
