Man killed, three others injured in melee at Mayor Wright Homes

Police arrested a man after a brawl at Mayor Wright Homes tonight that left one man dead and three others wounded.

The fight happened about 6:45 p.m. inside the state housing project in Kalihi. Two were taken to the hospital in critical condition and two in serious, said an Emergency Medical Services supervisor.

Honolulu police Maj. William Chur said all four victims were apparently stabbed and one of the victims died at the hospital.

“Right now we’re trying to find out why the fight happened and the circumstances,” he said. “It’s too early in the investigation to know how many people were involved. I can only say that there were four victims injured when we got to the scene and probably more people involved.”

He said officers recovered a knife that was believed to have been used in the stabbing. Police opened a murder case and more than one assault case and detectives were not focusing on anyone else as a suspect, Chur said.

Residents who spoke with a witness to the stabbing described a dispute between one resident and a group of people, who are family members of another resident.

Frenchy Davis, a Mayor Wright resident, said a mans named Rico, who is a father of three and disabled with back pain, was coming home when he was mobbed by a group of people. A woman who is a family member of the attackers brought out the knife to intervene.

“They wen’ mob him, but they went accidentally stab their own,” Davis said.

Frances Davis, Frenchy Davis’ aunt, said the man who died is a nonresident and a relative of 21-year-old TJ Mori, who was fatally stabbed during an argument at Mayor Wright Homes in September.

Takson Krstoth, 21, is awaiting trial for that murder.
