Eldredge to coach final season at Southern Utah as school decides to drop baseball program
Southern Utah announced on Jan. 13 that it will discontinue its baseball program following the 2012 season. The school is moving to the Big Sky Conference next season, which requires a men’s tennis team, a sport Southern Utah must add.
The Big Sky does not sponsor baseball.
Head coach David Eldredge, a 1979 graduate of Punahou, will coach his eighth and final season at SUU after serving four years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at BYU, where he also played.
The Thunderbirds currently have five players from Hawaii on their roster. They are: junior second baseman D.J. Andrade (Damien ’09), senior third baseman Justin Neuhart (Molokai ’07), sophomore infielder/pitcher Bryson Kenolio (Kamehameha ’10), senior infielder/outfielder Mitchell Kauweloa (Kamehameha ’07) and junior pitcher Kelsey Outram (‘Iolani ’08).
Existing athletic scholarships will be honored for players with remaining eligibility for one year following the season.
