UH’s Jackson is WAC player of the week
Kamilah Jackson reaped the rewards of a resurgent week for the Hawaii women’s basketball team.
The UH sophomore forward was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday for her leading role in home wins over Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State last Thursday and Saturday.
UH earned a rare 61-46 win over LaTech (only the fourth in 28 meetings) and followed it up with a 51-48 victory over NMSU. Behind Jackson, UH (7-11 overall) improved to 2-1 in the WAC for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
The WAC’s top rebounder posted double-doubles in both games, averaging 16.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals for the week.
Hawaii sailors win Wenner Invite
The Hawaii sailing team won the Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite for the second year in a row last weekend at Keehi Lagoon.
The event is named after former Rainbows sailor Peter Wenner, who tragically died in a recreational boating accident in 2008.
Craig Schifferns, Lindsay Stewart, Mitch Icard and Ana-Melissa Kea led the way for the Rainbows, who scored 77 points to win the regatta.
