Puna car break-ins plaguing visitors and kamaaina alike
Hawaii island police are warning the public about recent car break-ins in the lower Puna area at isolated sites ranging from Lava Tree Park to the Kehena Beach parking lot.
The thieves enter vehicles by breaking glass or reaching into partially opened windows to unlock the door. Victims have included visitors and residents.
Police said unattended vehicles should be locked and secured properly, and advised people to not leave valuables in vehicles. If it is necessary to do so, conceal items out of view.
