The city’s pet spay/neuter program is on hold and could resume after July if new funding for the program is approved in the new budget, officials said.
Discount certificates are not available because the $330,000 appropriated for the program has been exhausted, according to Dennis Kamimura, administrator of the Department of Customer Services.
The city sold the certificates to pet owners who redeemed them at participating veterinarians providing discounted rates for sterilization. Veterinarians, in turn, would redeem the certificates with the Hawaiian Humane Society.
Pet owners who have certificates but have not yet redeemed them may still do so.
The city subsidized the certificates for EBT card holders, who pay $20 for the certificates.
Others pay $40 for male cats and $50 for female cats, and $125 for male dogs and $150 for female dogs.
