Hawaii County police arrest second suspect in Holualoa robbery

 

Hawaii County police are crediting the public for helping to identify two men wanted in connection with a store robbery in Holualoa.

A 22-year-old Kailua-Kona man was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of two counts of first-degree robbery. The second  offense was  a Jan. 5 robbery at Kaloko Business Center V in Kona.

Police said tips from the public helped detectives identify the two men in the robbery at Keauhou Store on Jan. 12. In that incident, a man took money from the cash register, while a second man acted as a lookout in front of the store, and a woman cashier sustained minor injuries.

Police released surveillance video images of the crime, asking for the public’s help in identifying the men.

Roger Rasmussen, of Kailua-Kona, was arrested and charged in connection with his alleged role as the lookout.

The second suspect was found outside an apartment complex on Luapule Road in Kona. He ran when officers approached and was found about 45 minutes later, hiding in bushes several hundred yards from the apartment complex. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock, pending charges.
