Kauai pilot curbside recycling program ends
Kauai County said a pilot curbside recycling program in Puhi and portions of Lihue will end this month.
About 1,300 homes were involved in the program, which began last fall. An average of 28.78 pounds of recyclable materials were collected from each home each month, Kauai County Engineer Larry Dill said in a news release. About 70 percent of the material collected during the 10-month program was mixed paper, cardboard and newspaper.
The program will end on Aug. 18 for Puhi residents and on Aug. 25 for participating neighborhoods in central Lihue. The county said data collected will help plan future recycling programs.
