Kauai police dismantle drug, gambling den in Nawiliwili

Kauai police reported that the structure known as "Pine Tree Inn" was dismantled this morning. More than 40 investigations had been conducted at the "inn" over the past three years involving illegal drugs, gambling and other crimes, police Chief Darryl Perry said in a statement.

Neighboring businesses were fearful for their customers and employees because of the criminal activity at the unpermitted structure that took place all hours of the day and night, Perry said.

The so-called "Pine Tree Inn" at Nawiliwili, Kauai, consisted of a makeshift wooden roof slung between trees at the beach, fronting JJ’s Broiler restaurant at the Anchor Cove Shopping Center, county spokeswoman Sarah Blane said.

Kauai police tore down an illegal structure in Nawiliwili known as “Pine Tree Inn” early this morning because of chronic criminal activity at the site.

Officers conducted more 40 investigations at the site during the past three years, Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry said in a news release.

“These investigations involved illegal drugs, illegal gambling, nuisance complaints, harassment, family abuse, delinquent minors and crimes of violence related to assaults and fights which resulted in the arrest of 11 people,” Perry said.

“Pine Tree Inn” was a makeshift wooden roof slung between trees at the beach, fronting JJ’s Broiler restaurant at the Anchor Cove Shopping Center, county spokeswoman Sarah Blane said.

Perry said neighboring businesses were fearful for their customers and employees because of the criminal activity at the unpermitted structure that took place all hours of the day and night.
