Police investigate armed robbery of jewelry store in Mililani
Honolulu police are looking for a large man wanted in the attempted armed robbery of a jewelry shop at the Mililani Town Center late this morning.
The incident happened at Gold Club and Gifts between the Longs Drugs Store and Times Supermarket.
A man with a handgun entered the store about 10:50 a.m. and demanded items, police said. When the shopkeeper refused, the would-be robber ran off, police said.
People at the scene who spoke to the shop owner said the victim, 50, was hit on the side of the head with the handgun before the robber fled.
The shop owner sustained what appeared to be a mild concussion but did not go to the hospital, the sources said.
Surveillance cameras in the shop recorded images if the man, who was wearing a light blue polo shirt and a bandana, the sources said.
Sources said the shop has been open more than a decade and that this is the third time someone has attempted to rob it.
The Department of Education placed Miilani High School on lockdown about noon but it was reopened about 20 minutes later, a DOE official said.
