UH’s Prior, Nero earn WAC honors
Hawaii’s Christa Prior and Daniella Nero have been named the Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
Prior, a senior from Willows, Calif., won the 100-meter backstroke (56.19) and 200 backstroke (2:01.91) at Saturday’s dual meet against Wisconsin. She also was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team and a member of the 200 medley relay team, which finished second.
Nero, a senior from Jonkoping, Sweden, won the 1-meter (303.25 points) and 3-meter (339.50) diving competitions against Wisconsin.
Wisconsin won the meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex, 172-123.
Hawaii has 28 on WAC all-academic team
Twenty-eight University of Hawaii student-athletes made the Western Athletic Conference all-academic team for the fall semester.
The breakdown of athletes were six for women’s cross country, nine for football, five for women’s soccer and eight for women’s volleyball.
To be eligible, the athletes must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
The conference honored 289 student-athletes in all.
