Injured hiker rescued from Olomana Trail
Fire and rescue personnel assisted a hiker Saturday morning who tripped or fell and injured her leg along the Olomana Trail.
Rescue workers rappelled onto the trail from a Honolulu Fire Department helicopter, which lifted her to safety at Maunawili District Park shortly before 9:30 a.m., said fire Capt. Gary Lum. Paramedics from the city Department of Emergency Services treated the woman at the scene for minor injuries, an EMS district chief said.
Toddler hospitalized after being hit by car
A 21⁄2-year-old boy went to the hospital in serious condition Saturday after he was hit by a car at Bellows Field Beach Park.
The car was traveling about 25 mph when it hit the boy, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Paramedics took him to the Queen’s Medical Center shortly after 6 p.m.
Suspect charged in July 23 Kailua stabbing
A 34-year-old Pearl City man was charged Friday with first-degree assault in connection with the stabbing of a 29-year-old man during a fight in Kailua.
Richard A. Duenas was being held at the main police station in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Police said Duenas got into a fight with the younger man outside a Kailua bar about 1:35 a.m. July 23. He allegedly stabbed the man in the back and ran away. The victim went to the hospital in stable condition and later identified Duenas to detectives.
Undercover officers arrested Duenas on Thursday afternoon in Aiea.
Man in custody after alleged knife threats
A 20-year-old Kalihi man was arrested after allegedly threatening an apartment security guard and putting a knife against his neck Saturday morning.
Police said the suspect had been drinking and threatened the guard, 50, while holding a knife against his neck at about 12:05 a.m. Saturday.
When responding officers ordered the suspect to drop his knife, he attempted to flee but was captured, police said. A knife was recovered.
Officials aid boat with engine trouble
Honolulu Fire Department boats pulled in a boat Saturday morning that ran into engine trouble about a half-mile off the Reef Runway.
A man in the boat, which is about 15 feet long, was not injured, said fire Capt. Gary Lum.
HFD’s 100-foot fire boat and 25-foot rescue boat helped pull the boat in at about 8:45 a.m., Lum said.
