Three golfers place at junior championship
All three Hawaii golfers finished among the top seven in their age divisions at the Adams Junior Golf Tour Championship, which finished Friday at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East and West Courses.
Mililani’s Reese Suzuki tied for third in the boys 15-19 division, shooting 74 in the final round for a two-day total of 145. He was seven shots out of first.
Kailua’s Monique Ishikawa tied for sixth in the girls 15-19, at 84—160. Honolulu’s Evan Kawai (79—158) was seventh in the boys 12-14. Both finished eight shots out of first.
Hawaii golf team finishes sixth at Junior Cup
Northern California won the 39th annual Junior America’s Cup on Friday at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colo. Hawaii moved up to sixth on the final day with a team score of 218, its best of the tournament.
The Hawaii team finished at 665 — 25 behind the leaders and three shots out of third.
Hawaii was led by Seung Jae Maeng’s total of 72—218. He tied for 10th, seven shots behind medalist Jonah Texeira of California.
Alex Chiarella (74—225) tied for 25th, Richard Hattori (72—227) was 31st and Kalena Preus (77—229) 37th.
