KEY HOLE
9
Par 5, 506 yards
The worst score on the suddenly downwind ninth was birdie Friday until Koumei Oda, the 33rd golfer to go through, parred it. After eight eagles and 24 birdies, Oda hit his second shot — and third — into the bunker. He salvaged par with a 12-foot putt and went on to shoot 65. The ninth has been the easiest hole both days at Waialae, playing to an average of 4.340 Thursday and 3.979 Friday. Carl Pettersson offered ample evidence Friday of how short Kona wind makes the hole, hitting sand wedge for his second shot from 137 yards out.
