Kalia Road in Waikiki is reopened after gas leak
Police reopened Kalia Road on Thursday night after it was closed between Saratoga Road and Beachwalk in response to an apparent gas leak in the area.
Honolulu Fire Department personnel responding to a 2:57 p.m. alarm detected a gas odor in the area fronting the Trump International Hotel and alerted the Gas Co., according to Fire Department spokesman Capt. Gary Lum.
A Gas Co. spokeswoman said crews expected to repair the 4-inch synthetic natural gas line on Saratoga Road by midnight.
Indications were that the gas leak was caused by damage to the coating of the pipe from construction in the area.
