YMCA open houses feature free fitness
Free fitness classes, including Zumba, kick-boxing, circuit training and yoga, will be offered at eight Oahu YMCA facilities during an open house celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Other highlights include tours, healthy snacks and keiki activities.
Attendees who sign up for membership on that day will receive special rates and free enrollment in Y Jumpstart, a four-week personalized program that includes one-on-one sessions with a health adviser.

Tuskegee Airmen are focus of talk, film
“Star Wars” creator George Lucas says he’s waited decades to tell the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the African-American pilots who flew for the Army Air Forces during World War II, battling both European Nazis and American racism. Finally, Lucas’ film, “Red Tails,” directed by Anthony Hemingway, will open in theaters Jan. 20.
To set the stage, Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor will host a Tuskegee Airmen Symposium from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the museum theater. It’s free for museum members and included in admission for nonmembers.
Speakers include Dorothy Goldsborough, wife of a Tuskegee airman; Phillip Baham and Chandra Mark of the Hawaii chapter of Tuskegee Airmen organization; and Lt. Col. Brian Hill, commander of the 99th Air Refueling Squadron.
A panel discussion will follow a screening of the film’s supplemental documentary.
The museum at Ford Island is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Take shuttle buses from the Arizona Memorial/Pearl Harbor Visitor Center parking area.
