Academy of Art drops Chaminade
Vianai Austin scored 16 points and Alisa Griggs added 13 as Academy of Art beat Chaminade 64-43 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at McCabe gym.
Markeshia Manning scored nine points, all on free throws, for Chaminade, which was outscored 42-26 in the second half. The Silverswords finished 1-for-23 from 3-point range.
Academy of Art improved to 7-6 and 3-2; Chaminade fell to 0-9 and 0-3.
Harding makes 2 frosh teams
University of Hawaii punt returner Scott Harding was selected to two Freshman All-America teams.
Harding, of Brisbane, Australia, made the Football Writers Association of America first team and the Yahoo! Sports second team.
For the Warriors in 2011, Harding averaged 7.4 yards on 19 punt returns. He also averaged 22 yards on 11 kickoff returns.
As a receiver, Harding caught six passes for 67 yards.
Bareis to conduct tennis clinics
Former Rainbow Wahine tennis player Rosie Bareis is coming home to conduct two doubles clinics at Moanalua High School.
Bareis, a USPTA pro for 26 years, is director of tennis at the Claremont Hotel Club and Spa in Berkeley, Calif.
There will be a junior clinic for kids ages 8-18 Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $95 with a high school/club special price of $350 for five players. The clinic is limited to 40 and lunch is provided.
There will be an adult clinic the following day, also from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is limited to 32 and lunch is provided. The cost is the same and group specials also apply.
