A 40-year-old Kakaako man apparently drowned while stand-up paddling in waters off Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku Monday afternoon.

Police said a man on the beach at Kawela Bay noticed a person not moving in the water at about 2 p.m. The man swam out and brought the man ashore, police said.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 2 p.m. and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said the man was found with his leash attached to him. EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

There are no apparent signs of foul play, police said.
