A Kauai man died this morning after he was hit by a truck while jaywalking across Kuhio Highway in Hanamaulu, the Kauai Police Department said.

Police identified the man as Nepumuceno Kabigtin, 69, of Hanamaulu.

Kabigtin was not in a marked crosswalk when he was walking across Kuhio Highway near the Laukona Street junction at about 5:45 a.m., police said. A northbound Toyota pickup truck hit him.

Kabigtin was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was died. The driver, a 59-year-old man, was not hurt.

Police closed Kuhio Highway between Laukona and Laulima streets until about 8:15 a.m.
