Campbell cheerleaders win nationals
The Campbell High cheerleaders are scheduled to return home today after a successful trip to Jacksonville, Fla.
The Sabers’ varsity squad won the Gator Bowl Cheer and Dance National competition, while the school’s JV team took second place.
The Campbell cheerleaders also took part in the Gator Bowl parade and performed at the Gator Bowl halftime show.
Antonio is new Sabers volleyball coach
Former Hawaii Pacific University volleyball player Alicia Antonio is the new boys coach at Campbell High School.
Antonio was an NAIA All-American in 1991-92, Campbell athletic director Dam Delos Reyes said.
She coached at Lanakila Baptist Academy and Ilima Middle School, and also coaches in the Tita Ahuna Volleyball Academy. She graduated from HPU with a degree in business management and is a business manager at Ko Olina Resort.
Hawaii Pacific tops UHH in men’s hoops
LaBrent Chappell scored 16 points to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 64-56 win over Hawaii-Hilo in men’s basketball Tuesday night at Blaisdell Arena.
Glenn Miller added 14 points for the Sea Warriors (6-4).
Zachary Wilde scored 14 points with seven rebounds for the Vulcans (6-4).
Hawaii-Hilo edges HPU women
Kirsten Shimizu scored 24 points to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 53-50 victory over Hawaii Pacific in women’s basketball Tuesday night at Blaisdell Arena.
Hillary Hurley grabbed nine rebounds for the Vulcans.
Mana Hopkins scored 19 points and Paris Gravely added 11 for the Sea Warriors.
