Robbery suspect due in court Monday

Authorities charged an 18-year-old McCully man Friday for allegedly robbing two Japanese visitors, one of whom was stabbed, in Palolo Valley on July 8.

Kesly Lewis is being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center on $125,000 bail after being charged with two counts of first-degree robbery. He is expected to make his first appearance in District Court on Monday.

Police said it was Lewis who approached a convertible and demanded money from its two occupants, both Japanese nationals, near Rainbow Market on Palolo Avenue at about midnight July 8. When the passenger, 23, was awakened, he raised his arm to defend himself from a knife being placed to his throat, police said. He was then stabbed in the right shoulder/chest area, police said.

The two in the convertible were among three vehicles that got lost in Palolo while trying to find Tantalus Lookout, police said. After the stabbing, the three cars fled and got back to Waikiki, where the occupants flagged down an officer at a Kalakaua Avenue gas station, police said. The victim who was stabbed was treated at the Queen’s Medical Center but has since been released.

Lewis was already at OCCC when police arrested him for the visitor robbery this week. That’s because Lewis was indicted by an Oahu grand jury on two counts of second-degree robbery in connection with a separate case involving the robbing of two juveniles, also in Palolo on June 9. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail in that case and is also scheduled to be arraigned Monday on those charges, the prosecutor’s office said.

3 charged in holdup at Ewa Beach store

Three men have been charged in connection with a robbery at an Ewa Beach convenience store late Tuesday night.

Jimmy Robinson, 21, and Upu I. Vai, 20, both of Waipahu, were charged with first-degree robbery and were being held on $50,000 bail each. Jacob Nofoa, 19, of Waipahu was charged with first-degree robbery and was being held on $100,000 bail.

A woman, 24, who allegedly drove the getaway car, was released pending investigation.

Officers arrested the four shortly after midnight Wednesday in Nanakuli.

Police said three men entered the Aloha Ewa Mart Tuesday at 9:49 p.m. and that one man waved a handgun while demanding cigarettes from the clerk.

The other two men grabbed beer, and all three ran to an SUV driven by a woman.
