San Jose State upperclassmen get hotel rooms

SAN JOSE, Calif. >> San Jose State officials are asking 250 upperclassmen to check into a hotel to make room in campus dormitories for a huge crop of incoming freshmen.

About 4,000 freshmen are expected for fall classes, which is up from 2,760 freshmen last year. Freshmen are required to live in campus dorms, unless they live within 30 miles of campus.

To make room, the San Jose Mercury News says the university is asking about 250 upperclassmen to check into a hotel.

San Jose State officials are hoping to have a contract signed with an off-campus hotel before the July 25 deadline for upperclassmen to respond to the crowd management plea. The name of the hotel hasn’t been disclosed.

The hotel rates will be similar to dormitory rates.
