Grand Illusion wins Transpac
Grand Illusion, a Santa Cruz 70 representing the Waikiki Yacht Club, won its class as well as the overall trophy of the 46th Transpacific Yacht Club Race.
Grand Illusion, skippered by James McDowell, finished the 2,225-mile race from Los Angeles to Honolulu at 2:59 Sunday morning. The SC70, which began the race July 8, won the seven-yacht Division 3 and, on corrected time, was first in the starting fleet of 53.
Team Hawaii leads in wrestling
Team Hawaii was in first place after Sunday’s first day of the USA Wrestling Cadet Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D.
Hawaii, with 10 competitors, scored 41 points. California, with 11 wrestlers, had 36, with Texas (13 wrestlers) with 33 points in the 24-team competition.
Competition concludes today.
