Man accused of attack with cow bone
Hawaii County police said a 45-year-old man injured four men, one seriously, with the thigh bone of a cow during a fight outside a Kailua-Kona bar Saturday.
Gregory Haas of Kailua-Kona was charged with four counts of assault in connection with the fight outside a bar at 1:33 a.m. Saturday in the Gold Coast Business Center off Kaiwi Street.
One of the victims, a 40-year-old Kona man, was struck on the head and flown to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition. The next day his condition was upgraded to serious but stable, police said.
A 25-year-old Kona man was treated at Kona Community Hospital for cuts to his head and was released. Police said two men were hurt but did not require medical attention: a 65-year-old Kona man with an injured right forearm and a 49-year-old Kona man who had been struck on the back and was in pain.
Haas was charged at 11:30 a.m. Sunday with one count of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault. He was being held on $55,000 bail.
Waianae motorist dies of crash injuries
A man critically injured in a traffic accident in Kalihi Kai on Friday died at the Queen’s Medical Center on Monday, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Calvin Baker, 42, of Waianae.
Police said Baker, driving a 2003 Dodge pickup on Auiki Street, hit a green dump truck waiting to make a left turn onto Sand Island Access Road at 5:32 p.m. Baker was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with internal injuries. He died Monday morning, police said.
A 33-year-old Pearl City man who was driving the dump truck was not injured in the crash.
Police said Baker may have had a previous medical condition. An autopsy was scheduled.
Soldier says she was sexually assaulted
A 25-year-old female soldier reported being sexually assaulted by a married couple at Schofield Barracks early Christmas morning, police said.
The incident allegedly occurred between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Sunday. One of the two suspects is an active-duty service member, police said. No one had been arrested as of Tuesday.
The case might be turned over to military police, detectives said.
