Wahine finish No. 5 in volleyball poll

The Hawaii women’s volleyball team finished fifth in the final AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll released Tuesday.

The Rainbow Wahine (31-2) fell in five sets to eventual national semifinalist Southern California in the third round of the NCAA tournament. Hawaii’s two losses came to USC and national champion UCLA. The Bruins (30-6) defeated Illinois on Saturday for their first NCAA title since 1991.

The Illini (30-5) finished second in the poll, followed by USC (29-5) and Texas (25-5). Rounding out the top 10 were Pepperdine (25-7), Florida State (28-7), Iowa State (25-6), Penn State (25-8) and Purdue (29-5).
