Documentary, exhibit aim at island-grown food
The latest in the arttown exhibition series features locally grown food-themed photographs from filmmaker Robert Bates.
Bates has made two parts of his "Ingredients: Hawaii" documentaries, with the latest installment to be shown Feb. 4 at the Mamiya Theatre on the Saint Louis School campus.
During the filming, Bates shot a couple of thousand stills, some of which are on display at the Kaimuki restaurant.
"Malleable Convention" is on exhibition through February.

Cookbook sale to benefit Aloha United Way
"Mixing Things Up: Recipes from the Past, Ingredients for the Future" is the latest Aloha United Way benefit cookbook.
The cookbook contains more than 140 recipes from Ace Hardware Hawaii and Ben Franklin Crafts stores employees. It sells for $10, with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit agency.

Waikoloa Village to host Valentine’s Day brunch
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the 17th annual ‘Q’uisine of Hearts brunch at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island.
A bruschetta buffet will be prepared by culinary students along with omelet and eggs Benedict stations.
Pastry specialties, Kona coffee, handcrafted ales, champagne and wine will be served.
The buffet benefits child nutrition awareness programs of the American Culinary Federation Kona Kohala Chefs Association.
