Carbon monoxide poisoning killed woman
A 77-year-old Liliha woman who was carried out of her burning home Wednesday morning died of carbon monoxide poisoning from the house fire, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Karen Chikamori lived alone in the Bachelot Street home.
Firefighters found her in an upstairs, back bedroom that the flames had not reached. She was taken in critical condition to the hospital, where she died.
Wednesday’s 4:44 a.m. fire also caused about $200,000 in damage. A fire investigator was trying to determine the cause of the blaze, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
Car blaze is said to be arsonist’s work
Police opened an arson case Thursday morning after a woman’s car was found burning in her carport in Kapolei.
The owner smelled smoke at about 3:10 a.m. and went out to her car on Kekuilani Loop to see the cabin of her 2006 Mazda sedan full of flames, police said.
Firefighters couldn’t determine the source of ignition, but determined an accelerant was used, police said. No one was hurt and the car was destroyed.
Mayor Wright man held in machete threat
An 18-year-old man has been charged with threatening a security guard with a machete at Mayor Wright Homes.
Mckane Usor, a Mayor Wright Homes resident, appeared in court Thursday and was being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $11,000 bail. He was charged with terroristic threatening.
Police said a 50-year-old security officer approached a group of males drinking in a prohibited area at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. The males became argumentative, and the 18-year-old man brandished a machete and chased the security guard, who got away.
Officers found Usor nearby and also recovered the machete.
Kin pawned my jewelry, woman charges
Two family members of a 21-year-old Kapahulu woman were arrested Wednesday for allegedly pawning the woman’s jewelry without her permission, police said.
The woman found her jewelry missing and confronted a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, who are family members living with the woman, police said. The man and younger woman allegedly admitted taking and pawning the jewelry. Police arrested the two at about 7:30 p.m. for investigation of theft.
Chevron gas station is robbed of cash
Police are looking for a man who robbed a Chevron station Thursday morning in the Keeaumoku Street area.
The man demanded money after 10 a.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash from the gas station at 1378 S. Beretania St., police said. Detectives opened a second-degree robbery case.
A description of the robber was not immediately available.
