Wahine ticket sales slightly down

Barring a surge in new sales, University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball season-ticket sales are trending slightly downward, according to UH.

"They look to be down about 3 to 4 percent when everything is done," athletic director Jim Donovan said. "I hope I’m wrong, but we’ve done the callbacks (to renewal customers) and that’s our best guess at this point."

The Rainbow Wahine have averaged about 4,000 season tickets per season.

Donovan said, "It is way too early" to gauge football season-ticket sales.

Volleyball season tickets go on sale to new customers beginning today at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office, by phone at 944-2697 or online at hawaiiathletics.com.

Packages run from $75 (high school students and younger) to $165, plus a premium seat contribution in some popular locations.

UH, which finished 13th in the final 2010 rankings, has 20 home matches this season, its final Western Athletic Conference campaign.

Chan seeks stadium parking supervisor

With a large crowd expected for the University of Hawaii football team’s Labor Day weekend season opener, Aloha Stadium manager Scott Chan said he will seek executive approval to hire a traffic and parking control supervisor for the facility.

Filling the vacancy requires approval from the governor’s office, the stadium said.

UH plays Colorado of the Pac-12 on Sept. 3, a 4:15 p.m. Saturday game for ESPN.

"We know how much visibility that position gets and I’m just concerned we get someone in position before the start of the season," Chan told the Aloha Stadium Authority. "We want to make sure everything is in place as we approach Sept. 3."

It is one of five positions currently open at the stadium, Chan said.

Volleyball gold to Ka Ulukoa

Honolulu’s Ka Ulukoa won the 15 Open division, going 11-0 without dropping a set, as the USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships continued Monday in Minneapolis.

Tui Tuileta was named the MVP and Micah Ma‘a, Adrian Fatalia and Evan Enriques were named to the all-tournament team. Other members are Skylan Engleman, Austin Amian III, Keenan Meyer, Daniel Andrews and Noah Hayashida. The team was coached by former University of Hawaii All-American Pono Ma‘a with assistant Charlie Jenkins.

In 15 Club, Ku‘ikahi finished 19th overall.

Kan, Higgins on all-tourney team

Honolulu’s Ku‘ikahi won the silver division of the 16 Open as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships concluded Monday in Atlanta.

Carly Kan (Punahou) and Tayler Higgins (Punahou), the latter who has committed to play for Hawaii in 2013, were named to the all-tournament team. Ku‘ikahi finished fifth overall.

In the 16 National division, Ka Ulukoa Black placed 39th.

Imi Ike takes bronze medal

Imi Ike won the bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 14 Gold division at the recent Southern California Volleyball Association Summer Soiree girls volleyball tournament.

The team is coached by former Rainbow Wahine player Hedderlea Lim Ilustre-Pascua and current Wahine player Courtney Lelepali.

Imi Ike, coached by Ryan Tsuji and Drew Pascua, tied for fifth place in the 16 Gold division.
