Amnesty: many Nepalese workers exploited abroad.

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Amnesty International says Nepalese workers are being trafficked to Gulf states and Malaysia where they face forced labor. The rights group is asking the government to improve protection of the country’s migrant workers.

Amnesty said in its report Tuesday that the workers take out large loans to pay recruiters to secure a job overseas "unaware that they are deceiving them about the work, pay and conditions they are signing up to."

Hundreds of thousands of Nepalese work abroad and send money back to Nepal, which not only helps the families but also the nation’s economy.

However, the workers complain that the government has not done enough to protect them or help them when they get in trouble.
