Lack of registration cancels auction
The state attorney general has halted a charity auction of surfboards by Ky-Mani Marley’s Love Over All Foundation because the musician’s organization is not registered to collect donations in Hawaii.
On Thursday the state attorney general sent a cease-and-desist order to Love Over All Foundation and surfboard maker Maui Longboards, which planned to auction off boards with Marley’s image at a Fourth of July concert with Marley at SoHo nightclub in Honolulu and three other shows on the neighbor islands. Maui Longboards is a sponsor of the concerts.
Hugh Jones, a supervising attorney in the attorney general’s Tax Division, said complaints about the auction came in to the Better Business Bureau, which alerted the state.
"The Love Over All Foundation is not registered as a charity in Hawaii. Therefore, it is not eligible to raise funds in Hawaii," Jones said, noting that the foundation is based in Florida. "They can have a concert; that’s not the issue."
Registered charitable organizations in Hawaii are listed at ag.ehawaii.gov/charity.

Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is holding a silent auction Monday to support the nonprofit group’s volunteer and educational projects in the park. The auction begins at 9 a.m., with final bids at 11:30 a.m. sharp, and will be held at the Cooper Center on Wright Road in Volcano Village.

Big Isle folks report feeling tiny temblor
A small earthquake was felt Friday morning on Hawaii island.
The 3.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 6:41 a.m. about 15 miles off the coast of Kailua-Kona.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the earthquake did not generate a tsunami.
Residents from Captain Cook to Paauilo reported feeling the earthquake.
