The state attorney general has halted a charity auction of surfboards by Ky-Mani Marley’s Love Over All Foundation because the musician’s organization is not registered to collect donations in Hawaii.

On Thursday, the state attorney general sent a cease and desist order to Love Over All Foundation and surfboard maker Maui Longboards, a sponsor of the concerts, which planned to auction off boards with Marley’s image at a Fourth of July concert with Marley at SoHo nightclub in Honolulu and three other shows on Neighbor Islands.

Hugh Jones, a supervising attorney in the attorney general’s Tax Division, said complaints about the auction came in to the Better Business Bureau, which alerted the state.

“The Love Over All Foundation is not registered as a charity in Hawaii. Therefore, it is not eligible to raise funds in Hawaii,” Jones said, noting that the foundation is based in Florida. “They can have a concert, that’s not the issue.”
