"East Oahuans protest loss of grocery store," Star-Advertiser, June 22:
» That’s some customer loyalty, Whatever way it turns out, Foodland can use it in their future advertisements.
» The reality is, provided the landlord is not violating any laws, this matter is the business of the landlord and Walgreens. Like it or not, Sen. Sam Slom and Rep. Gene Ward also need to look out for the landlord, who is also a constituent. And the complainants better be careful: If they are landlords, they may be inviting the state and the city to OK their rental agreements, too.
» Foodland, forget sub-leasing from Walgreens. That’s like selling your car and then renting it back. Go find another place to open up shop.
"Abercrombie appointees weren’t asked to step down," Star-Advertiser, June 21:

» When a new administration takes over, it routinely asks appointed board members to resign, because you can’t effectively change the status quo if all the board members are holdovers from previous administrations. As for why Gov. Neil Abercrombie didn’t ask certain board members to resign, for some, their terms expire at the end of the month. For others, they were only recently appointed — by him. So why would he ask them to resign?
» When a new administration takes over, all department heads and assistant department heads are asked to resign. Appointed board members are never asked to resign.
"Isle residents split over strategy to pull soldiers from Afghanistan," Star-Advertiser, June 23:
» Never in the annals of U.S. history has a commander-in-chief ever told the enemy what we were going to do and when we were going to do it. President Barack Obama’s ill-conceived plan to withdraw more than 30,000 troops from Afghanistan is exactly what al-Qaida and the Taliban wanted to hear. They now will hunker down in the caves of Tora Bora and across the border in Pakistan, take no offensive action, but aggressively recruit, regroup, rearm and retrain while waiting for us to leave. And when we do, they will quickly rush in to take control of the country and we will be back where we were in 2001.
» The war there is not winnable, nor do we have the money to stay there any longer without jeopardizing our own country. I don’t want to lose another soldier for something that is not going to resolve the problem.
» Protect America, but give up the conceit of nation-building. And if we are to fight a war, fight to win.
"Public gets opportunity to query Abercrombie," Star-Advertiser, June 24:
» This town meeting was all shibai and propaganda. It is really sad to see our governor perform like this. The Democratic Party has to be shaking its head and worried that this is turning into a bad dream.
» Why even have a town hall meeting if all the answers and questions are staged?
» Say what you want to say about former Gov. Linda Lingle, but she took all questions at her town meetings and talk stories right from the floor. Anyone could ask a question.
» It’s as if there were two separate events: the one that took place in reality on the ground and the one in the paper. I was there and it was a pretty good event. Not to say it couldn’t have been better, and I hope he does lots more of these so they do get better.
» Gotta give Abercrombie one thing: He is honest about the mistakes he’s made as far as his style getting in the way of progress.
