Fire personnel responded to call of a visiting female hiker needing assistance at Uluwehi Falls at about 12:54 p.m. Wednesday.

Rescuers hiked to the area to assist a 60-year-old woman with an injured left ankle, but were unable to carry her across the stream due to the high water level.

Air 1 was called in to airlift the woman to a safe landing zone where awaiting medics transported her to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment.

The woman was part of a tour group that kayaked down the Wailua River then hiked up to the falls.
