Police cite driver for violations after horse trailer flips on freeway
Police have issued two traffic citations against the driver who was taking a horse to a polo match last week when the trailer the horse was in flipped on the freeway.
The driver was cited for having an "uncovered load" and a license plate on the trailer which wasn’t registered, a police spokeswoman said. Both citations are considered a violation.
The name of the driver was not released by police.
The horse trailer was apparently headed for a polo match in Mokuleia overturned in the westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway June 12.
Honolulu firefighters treated the horse for a large scrape on its right hindquarter and helped calm it after the midmorning accident. The horse ran onto the freeway before its handlers were able to bring it back to the shoulder lane. The horse later died.
