HTY DOES IT SAMOAN STYLE | 1. Honolulu Theatre for Youth cast members Leo Liugalua (Tasi), left, Vaialofi Samifua (Tuala), Jordan Savusa (Rat) and Nina Buck (Bat) celebrated with playwright Jamie Simpson-Steele at the opening-night reception for HTY's world premiere production of "Tasi's Gift: The Tale of a Samoan Bowl," Nov. 25 at Tenney Theatre. Simpson-Steele and her husband, veteran actor Aito Simpson-Steele, based their script on the Tamara Montgomery book of the same name. HTY echoed the cultural themes of the play by featuring modern Samoan cuisine at the reception.

"KIDZ 4 A CAUSE" AT THE WATERFRONT | 3. Nicki Lee, center, was the organizer and producer of "Kidz 4 A Cause Concert," an early evening fundraiser for the American Heart Association, Nov. 27 at the Waterfront. Lee directed and emceed a 60-minute variety show that featured a cast of 20 performers -- singers, dancers, musicians and a tae kwon do duo -- ages 5 to 16 while 32 other "kidz" handled everything from ticket sales to catering to security. Ed Keough, left, and his wife, Leilani Keough, joined Lee's proud parents, Cathy and Dr. Darrell Lee, in congratulating her after the final number.

HUGHES' "WILD" TOP COMEDY AT SHARKEY'S | 2. Stand-up comic and relationship therapist Kevin Hughes, left, conferred with Wanda Shipp and Bo Irvine before entertaining a sold-out house Nov. 26 at Sharkey's Comedy Club in Waikiki. Hughes' "Wild About Love" show was hilarious, beautifully crafted comedy, but his insights into the nature of sex, the secrets of relationships and the differences in the ways men and women think made it thought-provoking and educational as well.
