Circus-themed conference will stand up for real love
In a world of 72-day marriages, Pure Beauty Project makes the case for true love.
The organization founded by makeup artist Jessica Hoffman will host “Love Is a Circus” beginning 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Coral Commercial Center, 670 Auahi St. The conference will explore the question, “What is love?” Hoffman’s aim is to inspire singles to understand and cultivate love and relationships vs. quick hookups.
Tickets are $20 in advance at www.purebeautyproject.com or $25 cash at the door.
Against a backdrop of old-fashioned popcorn and cotton-candy machines, circus-style pupu from South Shore Grill, entertainment, picture booths and giveaways, with circus attire welcomed, Hoffman will welcome keynote speakers Sonya Balmores Chung, co-star of “Soul Surfer” and “Beyond the Break,” and model-actor Johan Khalilian, who has appeared on “The Tyra Banks Show,” “Fox News in the Morning” and “The Today Show.”
Hoffman started the Pure Beauty Project in 2008, collaborating with fashion, beauty and entertainment entities to provide conferences, special events and workshops to educate women on the value of positive self-image and self-worth.
By focusing on avoiding premarital sex, she aims to decrease such societal epidemics as unwanted teen pregnancies, STDs and broken families.
Although initial events were aimed at women, studies showing that 51 percent of Hawaii’s adult population is single inspired Hoffman to expand her mission to reach out to men as well. “Love Is a Circus” is the group’s first coed conference.
