Robber strikes bank in Ewa Beach
A man wearing dark clothing and a bandanna robbed the Ewa Beach branch of American Savings Bank Saturday, police said. Police said the man entered the bank, at Ewa Town Center, at 11:21 a.m. and demanded money from a teller. He left on foot in an unknown direction, police said.
The man is described by police as in his 30s, 5 feet 8 with a tattoo of an undetermined design on his neck. He was wearing a dark blue, long-sleeved sweatshirt, jeans, a baseball cap and a bandanna.

It was the second bank robbery on Oahu in two days. A woman robbed the Chinatown branch of Bank of Hawaii on Friday.
Woman hospitalized after assault
Police were looking for the person who assaulted and cut a woman about 8 p.m. Saturday at Kaneohe District Park.
According to emergency dispatch reports, the woman, 19, was hit in the nose with brass knuckles and suffered a 12-inch laceration to her chest and a 6-inch cut to her right arm. The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.
Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a man in a vehicle stopped at an intersection Saturday morning in Waikiki.
Police said the driver, 29, and another man were seated in the vehicle at a red light on Kalakaua Avenue in front of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza about 1 a.m. when the suspect approached the driver and began yelling at him, apparently for no reason. The man assaulted the driver, causing minor injuries, police said.
A witness and bystanders detained the alleged assailant until police arrived. Officers booked the man on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a vehicle.
Officers apprehend robbery suspect
A 31-year-old man is facing a robbery charge after punching a man from whom he sought a cigarette Friday night in Iwilei, police said.
The incident began about 8 p.m. Friday when the man asked a 43-year-old man for a cigarette, police said.
The younger man grabbed the older man’s plastic container of tobacco and punched the older man when he grabbed the younger man’s arm, police said. The assailant rode off on a bicycle. Officers found the younger man at Iwilei Road and Kuwili Street, and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Coast Guard tows stranded boat to Maui
A Coast Guard cutter towed a disabled sailboat Saturday after it lost its steering controls northeast of Maui.
Three men and one woman on the Eleu were found in good condition with food, water and safety equipment, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The Eleu was sailing from Marina del Rey in Los Angeles to Ko Olina when the
46-foot vessel’s steering failed, the Coast Guard said. A crew-member used a satellite phone to call for help Friday afternoon.
The Coast Guard launched an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Barbers Point at 5 p.m. Friday and the Cutter Kittiwake from Honolulu soon after. The air crew found the sailboat via its distress radio beacon.
The Kittiwake reached the vessel about 5 a.m. Saturday 118 miles northeast of Maui and began towing the Eleu to Lahaina Harbor. The Coast Guard estimated it would arrive about 9 p.m.
