200 soldiers returning to Wheeler Army Airfield
A U.S. military unit has completed its deployment to Afghanistan and will be returning to Hawaii.
Approximately 200 soldiers with the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion will be greeted by their families at a ceremony early Sunday morning at Wheeler Army Airfield. The soldiers completed a yearlong deployment.
Military officials say it was the unit’s first deployment into combat since the Vietnam War.
In Afghanistan, the battalion established tactical communications for various bases, trained Afghan soldiers to use communication equipment and built a computer lab.
