Motorcycle caused fire in Makakilo garage
A fire in the garage of Makakilo house Sunday was caused by an electrical malfunction in a motorcycle, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Fire Capt. Rick Karasaki said the fire caused an estimated $130,000 in damage at the house at 92-2045 Kulihi St.
That includes $100,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents, including the motorcycle and two cars. The fire was confined to the garage, Karasaki said.
Two residents had just returned home when they smelled smoke. One tried to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, Karasaki said.
Police officer charged with abuse of wife
A Maui police officer was arrested and charged with domestic abuse of his wife.
Christopher P. Kealoha, 28, a five-year veteran of the police force, is scheduled to appear in Family Court on Dec. 20 on the misdemeanor charge of abuse of a household member, after his arrest at his residence in Haiku on Thanksgiving. Police said his wife did not have life-threatening injuries, and Kealoha, who posted $1,000 bail, was on leave from work.
Man sought for questioning in burglary
Hawaii County police are looking for a 28-year-old man for questioning in connection with a first-degree burglary.
Police said Justin E. Fergerstrom is also wanted on an unrelated bench warrant.
Fergerstrom is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
