Readers go buy the book
More than 100,000 gently used books will be available as the Friends of the Library of Hawaii hosts its 64th annual book sale. The event kicks off today at 9 a.m., and readers can look for deals on cookbooks, children’s books, out-of-print Hawaiiana, textbooks, fiction books, CDs, DVDs and more until 9 p.m.
Lunch trucks, including The Cafe Truck (daily), Elena’s Filipino Foods and Cholo’s Mexican (today), Soul Patrol (June 19 and 22), Kevin’s Two Boots (June 20), Camille’s on Wheels (June 21), Local Stop (June 23), Shogunai Tacos (June 25), Simply Ono (June 25) and Stacy’s Laulau & Grinds (June 26) will sell food during the sale, which runs through June 26.
Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 25 (everything will be marked 50 percent off) and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 26 (everything costs 50 cents). Public school teachers and public library staff receive a 25 percent discount from Monday through Friday.

Sayer of stories to tell Irish tales
Traditional Irish storyteller Niall de Búrca will create colorful worlds with his words this summer in performances at public libraries and the Hawaii Theatre.
De Búrca will spin his "Irish Folk Tales" at public libraries in conjunction with the state libraries’ Summer Reading Program. The 45-minute performance is recommended for ages 5 and older. The free shows include: 10:30 a.m. June 25 at Aina Haina Public Library; 2 p.m. June 25 at Aiea Public Library; 10 a.m. June 27 at Waianae Public Library; 2:30 p.m. June 27 at Mililani Public Library; 6:30 p.m. June 27 at Kaneohe Public Library. "An Evening of Irish Stories" with de Búrca is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 2 in Orvis Auditorium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
