Wong on another All-America team
University of Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong was named to the 2011 Perfect Game College Baseball All-America Team.
The announcement came Thursday by Perfect Game USA. Wong received his third All-America team selection this season, and second first-team honor.
Wong, a junior, was selected 22nd overall by the St. Louis Cardinals during last week’s 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
This season, he started all 59 games and led the Rainbows (34-25) with a .378 batting average, 42 walks, 53 RBIs and seven home runs.
Wong also led the Western Athletic Conference with 23 stolen bases, ranked third in on-base percentage (.492) and fourth in slugging percentage (.560). He was named All-WAC for the third time.
Three qualify for Adams golf event
Richard Hatori, Monique Ishikawa and Teisei Negishi won their age divisions at the Adams Golf Junior Tour Qualifier on Thursday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course.
The event, which drew 69 junior golfers, was conducted by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association.
Hatori, of Honolulu, won the boys 15-19 division with a 74 (scorecard playoff).
Ishikawa, of Kailua, took the girls 15-19 division with a 70.
Negishi, of Hilo, won the boys 12-14 division with a 72.
The Adams Golf Junior Tour Championship will be held July 28-29 at Forest Akers Golf Courses in East Lansing, Mich.
