Children of deployed troops attend Oahu camp
Children of deployed servicemen and women are spending time at a YMCA camp on Oahu’s North Shore this month.
The National Military Family Association selected Camp Erdman as the site of its annual camp, which helps children deal with the stress of war.
Children of active duty, National Guard or Reserve service members are eligible to attend. They range in age from eight to 17. The camps are free for participants and are paid for by private donations.
On Wednesday, Navy SEALS are expected to demonstrate diving techniques for the children. Marines from Kaneohe Bay and Coast Guardsmen from Air Station Barbers Point are due to display helicopter landings and maneuvers. The Coast Guard is also due to show the children a 25-foot response boat.
