Danielson WAC player of year, Hawaii dominates awards
Hawaii senior All-American hitter Kanani Danielson was named the player of the year in the Western Athletic Conference for the third time in her career, and joined four other Rainbow Wahine on the All-WAC first team announced today.
Danielson is the third player in WAC history to earn the honor three times. Former Hawaii All-Americans Kanoe Kamana’o and Kim Willoughby are the others.
Also on the first team were Wahine sophomore hitter-middle Emily Hartong, junior middle Brittany Hewitt, senior hitter Chanteal Satele and sophomore setter Mita Uiato.
Freshman hitter Jane Croson was named to the second team as were Kamehameha graduates Alex Akana, a junior middle at San Jose State, and Nevada senior setter Tatiana Santiago.
New Mexico State’s Meredith Hays was named freshman of the year and Idaho’s Debbie Buchanan coach of the year.
