Alleged freeway shooter due in court to enter plea
A man accused of killing a mother of 10 and injuring two others during a late-night shooting rampage through Honolulu is due to be arraigned in Circuit Court today.
Toby Stangel is expected to enter a plea before Judge Richard Perkins in response to the arraignment. A grand jury last week indicted the 28-year-old from the North Shore on 20 counts including murder, attempted murder, firearms violations and drug possession.
None of the victims knew the suspect, and police have said the shootings appeared to be random.
The shootings started at an intersection where Tammy Nguyen was fatally shot in the head while her 16-year-old daughter sat beside her in their van. The shootings continued a few minutes later along the H-1 freeway.
