HPU’s Bukoski voted best in PacWest
Hawaii Pacific senior forward Chance Bukoski was named the PacWest Player of the Year in men’s soccer, capping a career that saw the Kapaa High product earn first-team honors all four seasons.
Bukoski, an All-America candidate, ranked second in NCAA Division II with 18 goals, and was third in points (44), goals per game and points per game. Earlier this month, he was named to the Daktronics All-Region team.
Joining Bukoski on the first team were teammates Kainoa Kahui, a junior defender out of Kamehameha, and sophomore midfielder George Fochive.
Hawaii Baptist product Marc Hope, a sophomore midfielder for Cal Baptist, was named to the second team. Earning honorable mention were BYU-Hawaii sophomore forward Brent Jenson, and HPU sophomore defender Truls Lystand and sophomore forward Heimana Chene.
Maui’s Lenny wins stand-up paddling
Two-time Stand-Up Paddle World Champion Kai Lenny of Maui won Wednesday’s surf slalom event at the World Paddle Challenge Fuji off Namotu Island.
Lenny caught a deciding wave to overtake fellow Maui resident Connor Baxter on the final leg of the event. Baxter, who won the distance race earlier this week, was second, followed by North Shore Paddle Challenge winner Zane Schweitzer and Hawaii’s Slater Trout.
San Jose State’s Akana honored by WAC
Kamehameha alum Alex Akana, a junior middle blocker at San Jose State, is the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for Nov. 14-20.
Akana, from Kailua, led the Spartans to a five-set win over Texas Tech. She posted a career-high 17 kills on .500 hitting and added a team-high five blocks.
