Volunteers sought to put up posts and signs at Kaena Point

The state is looking for volunteers to help install posts and signs to delineate roads at Kaena Point State Park Preserve.

The volunteers are needed Saturday for the Mokuleia section.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources says installing signs is the department’s first step in marking the selected designated roads in a remote and wild coastal area.

The signs will let the public know which roads can be used and will allow the department to better enforce state parks regulations requiring drivers to stay on designated roads.

Officials are concerned that off-road vehicles on unauthorized roads are detrimental to the park’s coastal vegetation and cultural resources. Officials also say reducing the number of roads in the park should also reduce runoff and erosion from uncontrolled vehicle use.
