One superpower leader, that is.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to leave Honolulu at about 8:30 a.m. today, so expect one more big road closure as his motorcade heads to Joint Base Hickam-Pearl Harbor just in time for rush hour. Details on exactly when and where roads will be closed are classified, so motorists are again warned to leave early, be patient and expect delays.
Monday morning’s commute was relatively normal until just before 9 a.m. when the H-1 freeway and other streets were closed for about 15 minutes as the motorcade of Chinese President Hu Jintao traveled to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam following the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
Of the 21 APEC nation leaders who visited Oahu for APEC, only the motorcades of Obama, Hu and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev caused complete road shutdowns.
Obama goes next to Australia as part of a nine-day trip that will also take him to Indonesia, where he lived for several years of his childhood.
