State hospital escapee caught at eatery
Police captured a Hawaii State Hospital escapee in Kailua on Saturday, two days after he was reported missing.
Robert Pacheco, 30, was captured at the Arby’s Restaurant on Hoolai Street about 11:05 a.m., police said.
An off-duty employee from the hospital spotted Pacheco and contacted authorities, police said.
He was arrested without incident, police said.
Juvenile nabbed in alleged armed robbery
Honolulu police arrested a male juvenile in connection with an alleged armed robbery in Salt Lake.
Police said a man, 49, reported being confronted by the suspect on Ala Ilima Street, near the Salt Lake Shopping Center, about 1:55 a.m. Saturday.
The man brandished a gun and demanded money, but the victim ran away and nothing was taken, police said.
A short time later, the victim noticed the suspect back in the same area and called police, who arrested him.
Blaze near homeless camp leads to arrest
A 49-year-old man was arrested Saturday in Makaha in connection with a brush fire near a homeless camp that sent a homeless man to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Officers responded to the fire near Keaau Beach Park about 10:10 a.m., and a man pointed out another man he saw start the fire, police said. The suspect was arrested for investigation of second-degree arson.
Police and paramedics said a 51-year-old man who inhaled smoke went to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center in stable condition. Firefighters put out the quarter-acre fire by 11 a.m., a Fire Department spokesman said.
21-month-old boy nearly drowns in pool
A toddler nearly drowned Saturday in a pool in Hawaii Kai. The boy, 21 months old, was found face down in the water about 4 p.m., according to emergency dispatch reports.
A neighbor who heard a family member’s cry for help jumped over the fence and pushed on the boy’s stomach to get him breathing, the reports said. Paramedics took the boy to the hospital in serious condition, a supervisor said.
